Water scarcity is a growing problem throughout
the US and abroad, and it’s crucial that both individuals
and communities work to conserve and protect this precious
resource. According to the US
Government, at least 36
states face water shortages within 5 years because
of a combination of rising temperatures, drought, population
growth, urban sprawl, waste and excess.
This isn’t just a problem in North America – it’s global. Australia,
for example, is in the midst of a 30-year dry spell – “The Big Dry,” they
call it – and population growth in urban centers of sub-Saharan Africa
is straining resources. Asia has 60 percent of the world’s
population, but only about 30 percent of its freshwater.
The Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change, a United
Nations network of scientists, said this year that, by 2050, up to 2 billion people worldwide could
be facing major water shortages.
The US used more than 148 trillion gallons of
water in 2000, according to the US
Geological Survey.
A combination of residential, commercial, agricultural,
manufacturing and other uses, that equates to almost 500,000 gallons
of water per person!
“The need to reduce water waste and inefficiency is greater now than ever
before,” said Benjamin Grumbles, assistant administrator
for water at the Environmental Protection
Agency. “Water efficiency is the wave
of the future.”

In addition to using Zero H2O®DriWash & Shine (waterless
car wash) there are numerous simple steps we can
all take to conserve water.
H2O
conserve is a web-based project
that offers tools and knowledge that enable individuals
to make water conservation part of their everyday
lives. An online calculator helps evaluate
your ‘water footprint’ ~ a
term used to describe the total amount of water
directly and indirectly used by a person or institution |
